Foot Problems

High Arches - PesCavus

  · Pes Cavus is when the toe-to-heel arch of the foot is excessively elevated.

 · High arches are the opposite of flat feet. Highly arched feet are much less common than flat feet and more likely to be associated with an abnormal orthopedic or neurological condition.

 · Unlike flat feet, highly arched feet tend to be painful because more stress is placed on the section of the foot between the ankle and the toes (metatarsals).

  · If you have a foot with a high arch, known medically as Pes Cavus, then you may be experiencing foot/ arch pain on a regular basis

.  · A high arch can cause a variety of foot problems – from plantar fasciitis caused by overpronation when the arch is flexible, to corns, calluses and even lower back pain if your foot is rigid.

  · People with a high arch are also at an increased risk for developing multiple stress fractures, and a long standing high arch can lead to the development of hammertoes.

  · It is important to have an assessment done by a certified orthotist in order to determine what type of foot orthoses are required for your feet.
